General Forum on Ethereum Localism '23 - PDX

In October 2023 PDX DAO put on the General Forum on Ethereum Localism (GFEL) in Portland, OR as a convening of 50+ web3 natives (and a handful of non-natives) thinking about and experimenting with onchain localism. The event was centered around the possible use of DAOs to develop novel decentralized community/city/bioregional systems and infrastructure and building mechanisms to bring p2p and ownership economies to local scale.

The impact generated was on the level of cross pollination and network weaving. The event facilitated idea exchange between different circles in the web3 space, especially around biomimetics, mutual credit and MTCS (CoFi), and cosmolocalism. Pre-conference outings exposed attendees to a number of urban correlates to the decentralization ethos including an ecovillage, an autonomous arts space and a mycelial forest. Multiple imaginative projects and collaborations have already been born out of the conversations that occurred at GFEL. (Also note that a GreenPill episode was generated from the event.)
