Refi Uganda: Community-Led Mangrove Reforestation
1. Site Identification & Mapping
- Targeting degraded mangrove areas along Northern Uganda’s creeks
2. Community Mobilization
- Partnering with grassroots groups: Orum and Abyecce
- Engaging local leaders and hiring additional community labor
3. Nursery Development
- Establishing community-managed seedling nurseries for sustainable planting
4. Tree Planting
- 54
400 mangrove seedlings planted during the 2023 season
- Activities completed within 7–10 days by each group
5. Education & Capacity Building
- Training community members in mangrove conservation and ecosystem restoration
6. Monitoring & Reporting
- Tracking survival rates
